Katie is taking on water at #3 in the evening news rush. Seems like her viewers are leaving the broadcast in droves. Maybe she should hit the circuit - hosting Saturday Night Live? Oh well. At least she has legions of fans who are behind her all the way. OK, maybe this link doesn't include any fans.

TV time again. The Man with Three Wives on television was amazing. I can barely keep the interest of one girlfriend. This guy provides resources and companionship for three woman. And they have nine kids. Holy crap, how good is this guy. OK, so they aren't exactly supermodels. But the "aren't exactly supermodel" types can be even more demanding than better looking women. How does this guy do it? Come to think of it, I do not want to know.
IF anyone saw the moving documentary last night of the man/boy with the rare genetic defect that casued his skin to fall off, you are appreciating life a little more fully today. Death is universal, and may we all have the presence of mind to approach it with humor. And with the knowing thought that we have maximized our presence and impact. This was good stuff.

I wouldn't doubt that there was a one word "secret formula" on documents stolen from Coke headquarters recently. "Sugar!" Yes, sugar in the right dose will yield a highly compelling drink - and Coke knows it.
What would have happened if Bill Gates had hoarded his software "formula" for computers?
Would he be the world's richest man?
What a surprise. Madonna's big adoption is going haywire as the father claims to not know the cosequences of his actions. Doesn't Madonna have enbought ot do with touring and singing and dancing and hanging from a crucifix - she needs to adopt a child from Africa. At what level doe sthis make sense.
I know, I bet she has always wanted to adopt a child from an orphanage in Africa. I have always wanted to fall out of a coconut tree and play music in an aging rock band.
Madonna should have consulted with Angelina Jolie's Foreign Adoption, Inc. to work out the details of the transaction. Or she should have not strayed so far from what she does best: hanging from a crucufix.

The Starbucks Coffee Machine released plans to push even more cultural stuff at their 5000 stores including CDs, movies and books. Billing itself as an entertianment company, these people are going too far.
They already insist on having different sizes of drinks called by ridiculous names - and pushing this language on customers. (Just try ordering a "large" coffee at a Starbucks and see the indignant response from the clerk.) Now they are extending the brand into areas where they can further push their messages into consumer consciousness.
Will we buy it? No. They are heading for a Vente Disaster. Oops.

Is this a joke? The junior senator from Illinois is thinking of running for president? Can this be true?
Mark Foley has a better chance of winning the Republican nomination than this guy getting elected president, but don't let that stop him.
Apparently Barack Obama declared on "Meet the Press" that he may consider running for president in 2008. What has this guy done in terms of policy or business? Has led large and complex groups of people?
This simply must be a late April Fool's joke. If the Democrats want to be seen as out-of-touch and delusional, they can nominate this guy. He will be polarizing, well beyond even the Clintons running.
Is this to provide the rediculous but long-shot Democratic "option" - so that Hillary looks like the more logical choice?
Holy crap, I hope he runs! What terrific entertainment!

A group calling itself SDN (Stop Deer Now!) is using this propoganda piece to extend deer hunting season for the entire year. This doesn't seem like a deer attack.

With their emphasis on leisure, where will Starbucks go next? They believe they are taste-makers, yet their film "Akeelah and the Bee" was a spectacular flop. Can these people carry a movie by tastefully promoting it in their stores. Can the coffee culture make it beyond over-priced, hot steamy liquid?
The coffee magazine launched by this group was a disaster, too.
Who are we listening to hear anyway? They can generate eyeballs for promotion, but who is puruading us at Starbucks? And do we want to listen?
Does confirmation of a priest's abuse make any difference to the Foley flap? No. Does this help reconcile the situation? No. The behavior exists independent of the past - and is no excuse for the present. How is this connected to news? Why do we need to know this other than the tragedy of it all?
Our appetite as a nation for this titalating trivia should be appalling to all. I predict that this will be front page news for at least a week.

It's true! Madonna adopted another child. This is the most beautiful news one can imagine. Oh happy day. The material girl's life is complete now that she and her director hubby adopted a child from an unkown country. An unconfirmed source claims that Madonna has her eye on more children to add to her expanding roost.
And lucky her. It is so difficult to adopt children that Madonna had to travel half-way around the world to find a suitable adoptee. Good thing the media was there to chronicle the entire trek as it would be a shame for the world to miss every detail!
Stay tuned here for adoption updates as this is one of the major news events of the quarter.

The sugar industry has started a marketing campaign touting its "natural " benefits. I suppose that is OK.
Consumers should take a more active role in their consumption of this deadly product. And they are ultimately responsible for self-regulating their food intake.
And anyone has the right to promote their product, however deadly. Right?
If we are repulsed by the promotion of this item, we should let the stations know.

How will support for Mel Gibson net out after his apologies? Apologies do not change belief systems. And it seems that the public gets that. Doesn't it seem as if Mr. Gibson is just sorry he got caught?
Being in the public eye, Mr. Gibson must face the financial consequences of his acts. He chose to be an actor. And the territory is filled with consumer sentiment, good and bad. Many of us do not have the mass media to deliver our messages.
Consumer sentiment swings both ways. Here's hoping that the public sends an unequivocal message to Mr. Gibson.
What an idiot.
Let the world grab a clue from the Amish as they deal with unspeakable personal tragedy in Pennsylvania with class and dignity. Horrific details. No book deals over there.
Now let's leave these people alone.
Back to Google for a moment. These folks built a reputation for direct and targeted advertising for business. This YouTube acquisition has the potential to completely dilute their focus in another direction.
Is there enough firepower over there to do two things in the advertising arena? Or will the new emphasis make the group less effective overall?
The web is grabbing more big advertisers, and this could bode well for the outcome. But these advertisers are paying for some semblance of targeting.
What about dancing cats speaks to targeting.
What's next up, potentially? Artificial Intelligience that delineates the demographics of who is watching the videos.
Will advertisers pay for non-targeted eyeballs? Or is the "umbrella" of the web enough to drive the dollars? Google hopes so.
This is not a slam dunk.
